Panic Attack Depression - Depression and Anxiety in Women It is a commonly known fact that women tend to suffer from depression and anxiety more than men. You will often hear women referred to as the weaker sex. In many ways this is a true statement since women are usually weaker physically than men and they suffer from depression and anxiety more often than men. Many women suffer from anxiety. This can be caused by stress that they will not measure up to what society expects of them to feeling they have a low self worth. Everyone experiences a certain amount of anxiety at some point in time but women tend to let that anxiety get out of control and cause an impact on their life. Depression and anxiety in women can be a serious condition if not recognized and treated promptly. Depression is not just a mood but rather a chemical imbalance in the brain that causes the person to feel down and out. Many people think that they can just snap out of it on their own but the truth is depression usually requires medical intervention before you can get a handle on the situation. Depression and anxiety in women can lead to feelings of guilt, a lack of energy, wanting to sleep all of the time or not being able to sleep at all, changes in the appetite, difficulty concentrating, and even thoughts of suicide. A woman may feel that there is no hope because there are so many bills to pay and not enough money. She may feel anxious because she is expected to attend a social event and she does not have anything she feels is appropriate to wear. Men can often make the situation worse by overlooking the problem or acting like they do not care. Women may suffer from depression and anxiety during pregnancy. This is a time that should be one of the happiest times of your life but you are anxious about the health of the baby, how much weight you are going to gain, and maybe even how you are going to be able to afford maternity clothes. If they are allowed to continue being anxious there is a real good chance they will also begin to experience depression. This is not just a mental issue but also a physical issue. Women have fluctuating hormones during pregnancy, during their normal lives, and during menopause. Some women are able to handle these fluctuations without a problem but others become anxious and depressed without even knowing the cause. Women also suffer from anxiety which can lead to depression when they are introduced into their male counterpart’s family for the first time. They worry that they will not be accepted or that they will do something wrong and make his family dislike her. Men tend to do much better with this aspect of life than women. For men, it seems that they simply do not care how they are perceived by others. Depression and anxiety in women can become a serious issue if one does not recognize the signs and get the help they need. A good family support system along with advice from a professional is often needed to help women feel that they are useful and wanted.
