Panic Attacks During Pregnancy – Can Contraceptive Pills Induce Panic Attacks? Most women in their child bearing years need to use some type of birth control to prevent pregnancy. For many women the birth control pill is their best option. Most types of birth control pills contain hormones that prevent the body from being fertile. They are usually taken for three weeks out of the month. The fourth week is the week when they have their menstrual period. Most pill users do not take them during this particular week. Contraceptive pills can have many side effects such as a increased risk of stroke or heart attack but these risks are usually small in the healthy young woman who does not smoke. Smoking increases these risks greatly. Many women will develop a panic attack if they just think they are pregnant. Contraceptive pills are the most reliable type of birth control that women have used for many years. In the more recent years a new product has been introduced to the market called Yasmin. Initially it was touted to be one of the better forms of oral contraception. As more and more women began using it they soon found out that Yasmin comes with some fairly serious side effects such as contraceptive pills-induced panic attacks. Women who have begun taking Yasmin have reported several different symptoms that go along with the pill. One of those symptoms is the sudden onset of panic attacks in women who have never been prone to panic attacks before. They develop feelings of anxiety and depression that can hinder them from enjoying their life. Many women have reported feeling depressed and having numb feelings toward others. They find it difficult to concentrate at work or at home. They cannot sleep and often do not have a sex drive. The anxiety of trying to perform sexually when you are just not in the mood will often bring on a panic attack and ruin a perfectly good relationship. Some women began taking Yasmin because it helps with hormonal acne that many women suffer from during their normal cycle. Others also felt that Yasmin helped with those horrible pre-menstrual symptoms that make so many women cranky. For these symptoms Yasmin has proven to be a success but the downside is they also seem to cause increased anxiety, depression, and even panic attacks. Many women experience such deep depression that they must quit taking the pill altogether. Others have tried staying on the pill long enough to work their way through the side effects only to find that the side effects do not wear off. There are many different types of contraceptive pills on the market and many of them are safe enough to use for several years. It is all in finding what your own particular body will tolerate. It may take several months of trial and error before you find one you are comfortable with. You should discuss all of your options with your doctor and listen to his suggestions. If you are concerned about depression, anxiety, and panic attacks you should let him know because chances are he will know which ones are associated with these symptoms.
