Panic Attacks Help - What Is A Good Way To Relieve Anxiety Before Giving A Speech? From the moment you find out you must make a speech you already feel dread. You know that you will be nervous in front of a group of people. What if you forget what to say? What if you begin to stutter? Will the audience be able to see the beads of sweat on your forehead? The list could go on and on. There are several things you can do to help relieve the anxiety before giving a speech. The first thing you need to do is write out your speech and get it exactly as you want it. Then you must begin the process of learning the speech. Go over it many times, then go over it some more. It is much easier to know the speech in your mind than to get up in front of a crowd and actually deliver that speech. Study the speech and learn it to the point it becomes second nature to follow one sentence with the other. Practice your speech several times. While you are practicing you should pretend that you have an audience in front of you. Picture people in your mind. Pretend that those people are listening to every word you are saying. Once you get this down pat then ask family members to listen to you. This will give you some experience giving your speech to a live audience. Family members can help you determine your strong points and your weak points. They may be able to help you with things that you have not yet thought about. If possible, practice giving the speech in the exact location the speech will be. If this is not possible try to find a place that is similar to the one you will be speaking in. Perhaps this is a church or a school auditorium. Keep your notes on cards that have numbers on them. This way you will know if you get out of order. This is also a good suggestion in case you should get nervous and drop your cards. The numbers will help you get them back in order. Learn to practice some deep breathing exercises. This will be a big help to you once you are about to take the stage. Deep breathing will help you relax and increase the oxygen level in your body. It will make you feel more confident. Before your speech make sure to get a good night’s rest. Try not to allow worry to interrupt your sleep. You need to be feeling your best on the day of the speech and being tired will only make things worse for you. If possible buy a new outfit to wear on the day of your speech. Get a hair cut or a fresh hairstyle. Wear colors that flatter you and make you feel good. A person always has more confidence when they look and feel their best. If you don’t think you look good, chances are that that will have an effect on your demeanor. Finally, just try and relax. You are only human and if you make a mistake it is okay. The people in the audience are people just like you and most can sympathize with your feelings.
